The Contest - The Next Food Network Star

Soooo, we have a winner?!

I never win anything (except for a 6 pack of Coca Cola from KNAK (Kay-Nack) radio when I was about 16) so this was a complete surprise. I just like to read the blogs and see what everyone is doing. I never expected this to fall to me. So, here is the contest for the 6 people who actually read what I write here.

The Food Network is my favorite network. Not, ESPN, not SciFi, not HBO, Food Network. I like a show there called The Next Food Network Star. It’s sort of an American Idol for foodies (yes, trekkies, yuppies and now foodies). The winner gets a show and becomes a celebrity. We will have our own Next Food Network Star contest here. You have one meal to cook to impress the judges and make your audiences mouth water. What do you cook? Tell me what and why you think it’s delicious. We are all looking forward to your descriptions.

The winner will be chosen at random as we have done before, but be descriptive, people! Make us drool! The winner will receive some cool food related items.

Hi Robert! Congrats on winning! Here's what I'd cook (and I'd chose this because of it's amazing combination of flavor and presentation)...

Blackened Chicken Salad--Imagine a spicy chicken breast sliced on top of a bed of greens soaked in a light honey mustard dressing. A tangy/sweet and colorful mixture of tomatoes, yellow peppers, zucchini, and cucumber top the salad off. The mixture of flavors and colors is a party for your mouth. Yum!

I'm glad to know that someone else loves "The Next Food Network Star" as much as Zuke and I do!

Ok, since Zuke and I have established that he's the better cook and I'm the better baker, I'm going to introduce you to one of my favorite baked desserts. It's a Devil's Food Skor Bar cake, also known as Better Than Sex Cake. Imagine a delectable devil's food cake, accented with gooey caramel sauce, and covered with cool whip and crunched up skor bar. It is a texture masterpiece! The softness and gooeyness of the cake, the creaminess of the cool whip, and the nice crunch of skor bar. Better Than Sex Cake will definitely have you debating whether or not the name holds true! Bon Appetit!

One meal? Here's what I'd cook - Raspberry Chicken (garnished with fresh raspberries of course!) with pilaf rice and sauteed green beans with slivered almonds. Yum.

With the sauce made of soy sauce, garlic, curry powder, chili powder, rice vinegar, pineapple juice concentrate, fresh raspberries, and raspberry preserves, raspberry chicken is the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Serving it with a delicious rice only seems natural. :) The sauteed green beans with almond slivers will make your mouth water!

Ok, so you know me...I LOVE FOOD!!! I guess if I were to cook you a meal it would be Chicken Pillows. It looks great and tastes even better!!! First what's inside, cream cheese, mushrooms, spices, and you guessed it Chicken, it is all rolled up into a flakey buttery crossant, then dipped in butter, and finally rolled in bread crumbs with a slight garlic taste. The topping on that is a sauce made of Cream of Chicken soup, sour cream and milk. I serve this dish with rice pilaf. It is delicious. Just ask TOny, one of his faves. If I win I'll send you the recipe--Just kidding! Hope you guys are doing well and enjoying Catherine's visit. :)

I won't give you the name of the soup, since I think it's trademarked.

Crumbled bacon with cooked and drained crumbled Italian sausage. Add to a potato, garlic, onion base with chicken stock, two quarts of water, cup of cream, and your choice of greenery (I use kale, but Swiss chard works too).

Serve with bread (or in bread bowls) and it makes a meal in of itself.nvednrv
